Many times in the past I wanted to trade domains with other domainers but unfortunatly I never found a trust third party who allow to secure domain exchanges.
I asked one time to an established registrar who also provide escrow services if they could play the third party for an exchange of premium domains and their response was they will charge me x% of the sum of appraisals, in other words many thousands dollars!!!
I think there is a real need of such escrow service, it’s a requirement to develop domain trading and maybe one day see next generation domain marketplaces that also support domain exchange.
We are happy to announce we are trying to fill this gap and should announce very soon our solution to secure domain exchanges.
If you have some interest on such service, some suggestions on how it should work, cost, … you are welcome.
Thanks to your feedback we may still improve what we are cooking.

I think it could be a good service for a few. But you need to check the market to see if there is a need for such a service. I could not see many such requests on any forums so far.
if you are going ahead with it, you may also want to add some domain + money transaction too. I exchange my domain for your domain and some extra money type of things.

I am maybe in the error but I feel one of the main reason why there is not many requests on forums for exchange is because once you have decided to make a swap there is no way to make it secure, in other words, to make it happen!
Yes, in the first release it was pure exchange but we have redo our work to allow to add extra money as it’s very difficult and rare to make pure domain exchanges.

Francios,
I am an open trader and have had a few successes doing so. There is a huge need for domain trading. Once domainers start to develop, they will begin to understand the need to expand and own a lot of names in small niches. Braden Pollock who owns a big chunk of the DWI space is a great example. This reduces subsequent development costs, helps capture a lot of real estate in the SERP, and enables the publisher to sell space to advertisers across a network instead of just one site. I’ve been hoping someone would get this development accomplished. Here’s hoping it is you. I would definately pay a yearly membership for it.

I had asked a registrar for this service 1 year back and they liked the idea and said they will try to implement it in due course. It’s not yet done, though.
My main idea was that two registrants who are about to drop a domain each could exchange them. Because once it drops it will take time to be released then you are not sure if you can grab it.

I agree with the need for a Swap Escrow. I’ve had numerous discussions about swaps or cash and swap (just did one last week, actually) and there’s no service to handle it. I’ve always just swapped with people I trust.
Jay’s right. I’ve developed thousands of domains all within very defined verticals. In chasing after key domains within a vertical, swaps are an important part of the game.
So, who’s going to create the first Swap Escrow?

I think it could be a good. I own domain name shoepost.com which I’m sell at sedo.com. The co.uk (shoepost.co.uk) is developed and it using by shoe company in UK. If they are interest in my domain, I will agree to exchange this domain it.

This will definitely be a good service specially part time domainers like me who doesn’t have that much finances. I could exchange a few good domains for a domain that matches the verticals I’d like to develop.
Good idea. Hope this would push through…
